Yes these are truly shocking confessions, but not of simply one successful blogger.

I collected all of them while reading the posts, interviews, opinion roundups of so many top bloggers. They off and on reveal the real fact behind any of the most common ideas of blogging.

So I compiled all which I noticed to make you clear on these stereotyped ways of thinking. Many poor souls just believe in them as what they apparently are. They don’t want to go into their depth because in almost every online venturing it is taken sufficient to get what is available and many people don’t examine the idea with their own wisdom.

So don’t take it personal because I am sure many of my mentoring and influencer friends will contend a lot with me on several points of this post.

So this is just what I think and you have all the rights to differ with me. My objective is to tell my awesome readers the other side of the coin. It may be head or may be tail. I leave it up to you.

So these are the 20 shocking confessions to make you see the other side of a blogging aspect.

1. Everything may be free but not your time

shocking confessionsWhat advice most of the blogging mentors give to their followers. They convince their readers to start a blog and try if they are most fit for blogging.

They argue since a blog can easily be started without paying a dime that is why one can happily try it without any risk.

They don’t mention the time factor while advising their followers to start a blog. They further argue either someone fails or succeeds in blogging he ultimately learns a lot while trying it.

Two points they don’t mention.

One is the time factor. It needs a good amount of time to start a blog and manage it even for a while. Time is not a worthless thing. There is an opportunity cost involved into it. With the same amount of time they could have learnt something more profitable thing that may be most fit for their passion.

Secondly they say their knowledge of blogging will help them in their next profession once they quit blogger after failing. It is true but subject to their joining any field related to online world or publication sector. Otherwise it won’t as much help as they portray in their advice.

So the fact is you won’t gain in all the cases if you try blogging to check if you can do it or not. You will lose your precious time if you fail and maybe your blogging knowledge has nothing to do with your next field.

The right advice is first thoroughly research with clear terms to understand if you can make it or not. That research should also be not on random basis. It must be with definite objectives of what you need to know about the field of blogging and if you can meet its requirement.

Experiment is the later stage if you are fully convinced theoretically to try it. Even then you should get mentoring of a pro blogger either free or on fee to formally learn it. Formally means learn what you need to learn and skip that is even someone offers free to you.

2. Secret of blogging success is only one

Many bloggers misuse the word secret. A secret is which no one knows other than you. This word is used as an inappropriate substitute of tip or trick. In most of the online fields herd instinct is followed without any logic. All are doing this so why not me; is the common thinking in this field.

So make it very clear there is only secret of blogging success and that is NO SECRET. Even if there is any that is not a secret because huge number of people already knows it. So it may be a trick, tip or advice but not the secret.

3. Content is king-maker not the king itself

Content means that is contained in a thing. Are you sure first time Bill Gates said this in the same sense which you take it now. Just think it for a while.

He said this in early days when online world was emerging. At that time everything was simply information in text form or a little in video. So content was obviously king.

But now in blogging it is not simply text, videos, images and podcast that is contained in it. Now SEO is equally important because of the stiff competition. Google bots can’t rank the first post on a topic they find. They evaluate its worth with various signals including their quality, readers’ interaction, number of resharing. So SEO is also an important element of blog.

On the same lines social media optimization, blog layout and design, engaging community, huge number of comments equally contained in a blog.

So content is no more king now. Yes high quality and valuable info at your blog can lead you to the success. All the main elements of a blog now make a blog king in its niche. It means content is king but its concept is not as limited as you take it just because Bill Gates said this.

Yes overall content is still a king-maker if team work of all the main elements of a blog work together in harmony.

This is a quite new advice you get from every top blogger. Money is in the list. It means just build an email list and you will start earning by selling products and services to your email subscribers.

On the other hand why it is said now earning money with your blog is not easier. This is because every blogger is selling every type of related product at his blog.

Supply side is heavily loaded while demand is not rising at the same pace. Buyers have an ample choice of what to buy and how cheap to buy. They know which blogger will offer them the biggest discount on coming Black Friday Deal. They know many tips and tricks to buy the best with the lowest price.

So do you think your email subscribers have just arrived today from Mars or Neptune? They would simply receive your email with a sales pitch and buy your product. They have also the same advantage of supply load as they know how to buy the best at the lowest price.

If you assume they will buy because you approach them first it is also a misconception. They don’t have to move physically to another shop to search more benefit in the same deal which you offer to them. They will simply open another window of their browser and check who is selling the same product with lesser price and more benefits.

So money is not in the list, it is in the strategy to sell more as you adopt at your blog also. If money is really in the list so money is equally in blogging. Please don’t mind my using a little harsh language. I want you to be clear on what is commonly going on in blogging without any insight.

5. To hell with a passion that’s without wisdom

Yes passion without wisdom is madness. If one doesn’t learn blogging and just dive into it because of his passion he is nothing but a mad person. Here learning blogging doesn’t mean as it was learnt a decade ago. At that time it was not very formal profession.

Now you need to learn blogging formally. You must have very clear concepts of sales funnel, B2B, B2C, sales pitch, MLM sort of terms to fully understand the basic concepts of internet marketing that you do with your blog.

So one needs to do first hard work and with consistent hard work he will be able to do smart work. How simple is that. They are just two stages of your struggle.

7. Without your worth you can’t woo the influencers

Enstine Muki rightly wrote once here that people love to be friend of those who are equal to their level. The level may be of age, maturity, skills, success or wealth. Yes they don’t look down upon those who are lesser than them. But they become friendly quite naturally with those who have any worth.

So never try to impress any top blogger by just praising her again and again. Prove your worth and she will notice you either you request her or not.

So first requirement to be noticed by influencers is proving how good you are and then be closer to them. Otherwise they will just treat you as their mild competitor or just another admirer.

8. Comment bartering

This is quite common in blogosphere and not bad in any way. In literary field, poets sit together and recite their newly written poetry one by one. Rest of them comment on it.

Same is going on in blogging one needs not to hide this reality. Many people comment at your blog because you equally comment on them. It is good and there is nothing to hide in it.

Why businesspersons join clubs and gymkhana types of things.

They join to support each other.

You being online marketers join different online spots including social media, forums and communities. You have the benefit of staying connected without moving physically to somewhere.

So bloggers support each other on all online spots. There is nothing wrong in supporting each other. You support those who support you. This is good and you should not cover it saying you don’t expect any return after supporting someone.

10. Money bloggers cartel

Cartel means not sharing the things which may cut a group’s profits.

Is it wise to share a newly released product before writing its review at you blog?

So money bloggers do right when they first write the review of a newly released product without letting their juniors know about it.

After that their junior money bloggers pick the same product and write its review on their blog. This process moves down and down automatically.

So it is likely that there is a cartel of same level of money bloggers at every stage. Yes they don’t enter into it with an agreement and that’s just an undefined agreement.

11. Most of the commentators are not your buyers

Did you ever observe the expertise level of the most of your blog commentators?

Most of them are fully aware of so many things even which you don’t know. So huge number of comments at your blog doesn’t mean all are buyers of your products and services.

Yes they are your great supporters and offering valuable advice for free with their comments and making good impression on those who will eventually become your buyers.

12. Difference between trying and using a product

It is termed as ethics of online marketing to use a product before selling it. So what about a blogger who sells all brands of hosting and he has just one blog.

He also declares he felt a big change at his blog after using a given product. Actually he uses a product just to try it and buys it with its minimum package. If affiliate is not popular he gets its free version or trial version to check its benefits.

He does full justice while narrating the benefit and even doesn’t deceive you. But he being a smart seller can’t tell you which hosting he uses permanently and which he simply tries to honestly inform you its benefits.

So you should not buy a product just because its marketer himself is using it. You can buy it if you fully trust the seller regardless of the fact if he is using that product or just tried that.

13. Courtesy means give and take

People are courteous to each other in blogging. Other than a limited number of freaky non-money bloggers rest of them interact with each other on give-and-take basis.

Don’t misunderstand my point. They are not selfish. They are true businessperson and it’s the nature of a good businessperson to believe in give-and-take.

So never expect you would keep getting from a blogger and he will keep giving you. After sometime he will try to avoid you. So it is better to give him in return.

Just tell me how many things you bought so far from the bloggers who you are a big fan of.

14. Helping others to build your personal brand

What is corporate social responsibility (CSR)? Companies do welfare work as their CSR. They do to portray their good image.

Bloggers also help their junior bloggers. They actually want to tell how good their personal brand is.

So never expect a successful blogger will give you whatever you want. He will just give you that he thinks will work to portray his good image and won’t go beyond that.

15. Stability in quantity means quality

Quality, quality and quality; you are just reading this word in every blogging advice you got so far. But what is the criterion to assess the quality.

How do you measure quality of your post? By checking how many visitors enjoyed it. How many comments you got?

So quality and quantity both are important. While anything to deceive others may it be quantity or quality will never work to make you a successful blogger.

You can’t bring professional maturity in you beyond a certain level. It comes with the passage of time if you keep doing hard work.

So many bloggers with lesser experience in this field give tough time to so many younger lot who have more relevant experience but lesser general type of experience. This is because a person with wider experience of other fields uses his maturity level to create value and impresses others.

So just with a little relevant experience you can’t get as much depth as a blogger with matured age can. For this purpose you need to wait and accept this reality either it is bitter or sweet.

17. To make big sales it is must to become a famous brand

You can sell by offering attractive price and huge benefit. But to make big sales you need to be famous brand. You can’t become famous in days or months. It takes years to become a famous brand.

Who verify the credibility of Amazon before buying a product from it? I am not saying you need to be equal to Amazon in terms of your brand. But your brand should be as much famous as you just need to convey your offer to all and then they buy it if they really need it.

18. Nothing is complete because of fast-pace evolution

Compete guide, complete tutorial, complete solution and several other offers with the term complete itself show the lack of vision of its presenter.

Everything is changing so fast in online world. A perfect thing of today is doomed to be imperfect after a few weeks or months when its advance version is introduced.

So use this word very carefully and just for things which you think won’t change rapidly.

19. Big numbers are just allurements

Just two years ago it was a great idea to give exact numbers of benefits to do any trick. But now it won’t work as much impressively. How to increase your G+ followers by 500%? It does attract the readers but if you fail to prove it in your post it may disappoint your readers.

So be rational while using numbers and use this trick in case you are fully confident to justify it.

20. All testimonials does not work

It is good to show what others are speaking about you. But it is unwise to just cut a part of the views of an expert from your comments section or social media feed to tell your readers experts opinion about you. They might have said this in another context. People now know what a relevant testimonial is.

So ask an influencer to comment on you or your product to share it with your target market. The one which a person made without your request may have some other context and you need to avoid quoting it for any other purpose.
