Selection of a wrong blog niche is no doubt one of the biggest mistakes in blogging. This mistake never lets you run your blog with your full passion and make money with it.
If you don’t have passion for a blog niche or it has no money earning potential you can never make money with it nor enjoy working for it.
Many bloggers pick a wrong niche in their first attempt and unfortunately most of them commit any of the below follow-up mistakes.
- They start a new blog after sometime when they get to know their first selection of niche was not correct.
- Or they make their blog multi-niche by picking one or two more niches which they feel are good for them to achieve their money making goals.
- Or they entirely change their niche and lose the audience of previous niche and fail to get the new audience because of the sudden change.
Impact of first follow-up mistake
I think first mistake is more serious if someone starts another blog after wasting a lot of time in working on a wrong blog niche.
He will have fear of failing again because of already failing once. A person with a fear of failure cannot be as much successful as he could have been in his first attempt.
Also losing his all previous hard work will deter him retain his motivation level and he will fail to work for the new blog with any higher level of motivation.
Impact of second follow-up mistake
Also if someone just makes his blog multi-niche hoping to achieve success in that way is equally a worst mistake.
An archive of a blog full of posts on wrong niche can never be a strong foundation of a multi-niche blog. Its initial posts should be related to all niches in right proportion.
Secondly his blog will be nothing but a jumble of niches out of which maybe a few he likes and a few he doesn’t.
Impact of third follow-up mistake
The third option is to completely change the blog niche without worrying about its impact on your readers and search engines.
It is also not a right approach because once you change it your whole audience will also be changed. It is more likely you lose a big audience and get a small audience because of the sudden change.
You may also have a mess of audience for a long time and it will be in transition till you completely change the overall look of your blog. It may take a year to directly convert your blog from one niche to another.
Right option is gradual change of your blog niche
So the proper solution is gradual transformation of one niche into another without letting anyone know what you are doing.
Once you manage to change your niche following my method you can earn money with your right niche easily. You will create big value with it because you would love to work on it and attract people attention to make them your customers.
So just stick to this post till the end to get the mastery of gradually changing your niche to make it money making mill.
To select the right niche for you blog read this post first and then come back here to continue reading.
In 24/7 offices and factories link is a common word. When a shift changes the outgoing and incoming shifts are given a common half or one hour to hand over the duty charge to new shift. That common time for both the shifts is called link time.
So for changing your blog niche from one topic to another topic you need a link topic or link niche. It actually helps to move from one topic to another without any strange impression of jumping.
So for shifting from one niche to another first of all you need to know your link niche that helps you follow the process of change appropriately.
For example your blog niche is “personal development”. After working on it for some time you feel no further motivation to continue it. Or you assessed yourself not fit for it. Or you find that it has no big earning potential.
Meanwhile you also find your best-suited niche and for example it is “blogging”. So you want to start another blog on it. But after reading this post you want to gradually change it.
Here you need to find a link niche. This is a lengthy exercise and you should take your time to find the perfect link-niche for your blog before transforming it.
By following these three steps given below you can find it easily.
This is the first step to change the niche of your blog. With extensive researching make a list of niches that are closely related to your wrong niche “personal development”. They may be:
- Success: Because we need personal development to become successful in our life.
- Excellence: We need to excel in our field by personally improving ourselves
- Entrepreneurship: Most entrepreneurs want more and more tips to improve themselves
So these are the three main niches directly related to personal development. Now let’s move to the next step.
Here again you need to do the same exercise to find maximum number of niches related to your new niche. You can do this by yourself with the help of online research. If you read a few blogs on your newly selected niche you can find several posts pointing a few other related niches and from there you can get several link niches.
They may be:
- Blogging success: People blog to become a successful blogger.
- Online entrepreneurship: It is hot in demand because it does not require much investment to start your own business online
- Money making: People want to earn money online in addition to their regular income to improve their living without taking any big risk.
Now you have total six closely related niches. Three relates to your old niche and three to the new one. Now the third and most important step begins that pertains to picking the one common niche from both the lists.
Here again you have a choice because two are common in each of them.
- Success from step 1 and blogging success from step 2 are common to some extent
- Entrepreneurship from step 1 and online entrepreneurship from step 2 are also quite similar
First one is directly related to your new niche “blogging”. While second one is a little away from it but a blogger is also an entrepreneur so you can also pick the first one “blogging success” without any second thought.
Finally you need to work on your link niche during the period of transition. It should be from fifteen days to maximum two months. Here you have to be so vigilant and take it as stopover where you just have to stay for a while till your main flight arrives.
You need to be so choosy and pick those topics for your contents that lead to your new niche. Also the initial topics of your contents should not at once detach you from your old niche. It will be an awkward move to take a jump.
- Top 5 qualities you must have to become a blogger
- What are the benefits of blogging for your personal growth?
- What is blogging and how you can use it for more learning?
- Become a blogger to be consistent, focused and successful professional
These are the examples and you can create your own set of contents for your link niche by following the guidelines given in this post.
Repurpose old posts
Meanwhile select all your previous posts of wrong niche to repurpose them for linking them to your new niche. It is likely that a few of them are completely irrelevant to your new niche. So in first instance leave them and just focus on the ones which you can repurpose to your new niche.
For example if you find a post on:
- 10 benefits of personal development for your professional growth
So you can repurpose it as:
- 10 benefits of personal development for your blogging growth
Yes you can change one word of the headline if it does not affect your permalink. The best option is to keep your permalink unchanged while repurposing the post but your keyword should remain in it for SEO purpose.
Here in this example the keyword is personal development so you can easily change the headline and the contents of your post both without any worry.
Again don’t make haste in fully changing the blog niche and meanwhile do extensive research to get great ideas on writing wonderful posts on your new niche.
Try to create posts initially that prove how fit you are for the new niche. If people get great value from your latest posts they will be happy and positively notice the change.
Change your target sources for traffic
Meanwhile do join forums, groups and communities related to your new niche but equally hold your presence in those online places related to your old subject.
Just share your contents of link-niche in both types of places during transition period. Once you fully change the subject of your blog then focus your attention to all the places related to your newly selected topic.
So this is all about, how to gradually change your blog niche without starting a new nor making it a multi niche.
This whole experience I shared with you here after successfully changing the topic “business environment” into “leadership” of a blog of one of my clients.
